The Stonecold Hobos
Debut album sleeve design and logotype for The Stonecold Hobos, a rockin’ slide blues band from Drogheda, Ireland.
2014 saw the band step onto the festival circuit with a headline show at the T. Morris Rhythm n Blues Festival, Wexford. They delivered an explosive set at the Harvest Time Blues Festival, Poc Fada, Monaghan (where they shared the bill with The Pat McManus Band, Johnny Gallagher, Crow Black Chicken and a host of American and European blues artists). The Blackstairs Blues Festival, Enniscorthy, saw the band play three blistering shows over three days where one reviewer described Martin (The Stonecold Hobo) as a ‘slide guitar wizard’. (Wexford Echo, Sept 09 2014) Sunday’s Grande Finale gig at Treacy’s Hotel, Enniscorthy, is described locally as the stuff of legend. Other impressive shows so far include The Kilkenny Roots Festival, The Drogheda Fringe and Maritime Festivals.
At the heart of the band is the strong vocal performance and slide guitar wizardry of Mr. Martin Cummins combined with the authentic blues harp playing of big brother Noel “Zap” Cummins, the impressive low end frettery of Mr. Shane O’Brien on bass and the powerful yet subtle drumming of Mr. Martin McAleer. This band are only just starting to branch out nationally and come highly recommended. A mix of Gallagher and Zeppelin, with a little Muddy on the side, best describes the output from this outfit.
